From the neuroscience of music and psychoneuroendocrinology to music therapy and dance therapy, this multidisciplinary volume does a great job of bringing together far-flung strands of research at the individual, group and community levels and exploring just how much we are beginning to learn about the impact of music on our lives.
I admit to becoming a little jaded by the steady supply of relatively lightweight 'professional' books in counselling and psychology. Here's a remedy. The Oxford Handbook of Stress, Health, and Coping is a heavyweight. This volume is exceptional in both its breadth and its depth.
Ostensibly, Project Psychology is all about applying psychological understanding and techniques in the course of project management and change management. Just don't expect to learn very much about how exactly to do that.
Although subtitled "How Learning to Listen Can Improve Relationships", a descriptive alternative for this book would have been "Psychoanalysing Myriad Ways Communication Can Go Wrong". The bulk of the volume is given over to two things: examples of communication failures; and explanations, almost exclusively psychodynamic in nature, of what can go wrong or what could have gone differently. Oh, and jokes: lots of jokes, irony and sarcasm.
